LAHORE - Peshawar Corps Commander Lieutenant General Asif Yasin has ruled out rumours about a fresh offensive against terrorists, saying that an operation in North Waziristan is underway, a TV channel has reported.

Yasin told reporters that the Pakistan Army was already targeting terrorists, the Daily Times reported.

The army has made a strategy to deal with the situation in case of the United States army’s departure from Afghanistan, he said.

“We do not need any guarantee from the Taliban for peace in the Tribal Areas. Half of the area has been cleared of terrorists and efforts are being made to eradicate all terrorists,” said the Corps Commander.

Yasin also said that 46 supporters of the Taliban arrested from Malakand were not involved in any terror activity.

“They are being trained in computer skills and ethical education for making them useful citizens of the country,” he added. (ANI)
