COIMBATORE - Tamil groups protested against a Sri Lankan delegation here on Saturday.

The delegates, who were in the city to attend the Global India Textile Show, were forced to leave the venue.

Protestors shouted anti-Sri Lanka slogans against the two-member delegation comprising Sri Lankan Minister for Industry and Commerce Rishad Bathiudeen and a Sri Lankan MP Kasim Faizal.

The protest was organised by the Vidhuthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (Freedom Panthers Party) and Naam Tamilar (We Tamilians) party.

Protestors said they were protesting at alleged human rights abuses during Sri Lanka’s three-decade war against Tamil separatist rebels, won by the army last year.

“Inviting Sri Lankan delegation to India is not welcome and his visit is a shame and we condemn his visit to India. We will never allow their visit here. We will stage protest here,” said Kalai Arasan, a Freedom Panthers Party leader. (ANI)
