LONDON - A UK survey has found that women spend more on themselves at Christmas than on presents for partners, family and friends.

Researchers said half of women splash out hundreds of pounds making sure they look good and dress well over the party season, reports the Daily Mail.

A new frock tops the list of popular indulgences, with 27 per cent of females admitting to buying an outfit to impress for their office party.

Beauty treatments, a pair of shoes and champagne also rank highly as treats for the festive period.

More than 3,000 men and women were polled for the Clothes Show Live research.

36 per cent of men and women admitted to watching a chick-flick on Christmas Day.

Three in ten men also say they would pretend to like a rom-com if they thought it would get them a kiss with a girl they like, while 6 per cent admit to crying in front of their wives or girlfriends during a slushy movie.

Unsurprisingly, more than half of men say they could never admit to male friends that they watch these films.

Around a quarter of men and women questioned also admit a sing-a-long karaoke session is a guilty pleasure and 5 per cent say ‘cheesy’ tunes and fancy dress are more acceptable at Christmas.

However, the survey also found that some people are no good at surprises - with 14 per cent confessing to searching for and stealing a peek at hidden presents before Christmas Day.

A similar number say gorging themselves on festive food and worrying about the consequences later is their guilty pleasure. (ANI)
