COIMBATORE - Over a thousand specially-abled people carried out a rally here to demand special provisions for them.

The rally was organised by the Hearing Impairment Social Welfare Organisation (HISWO).

M. Ravikanth, the State president of HISWO, highlighted the demands of the community in the rally.

“We, the hearing impaired and physically challenged people, are staged this rally to urge to the government to concede the various demands like reservation in Central and state government jobs, rupees 3000 as grant to all physically disabled unemployed and free medical insurance policies to all physically challenged people,” said Ravikanth.

As of now, even though reservation exists for orthopedically handicapped, visually challenged and partially hearing impaired, mostly they are ignored on pretext of loss of productivity. Neither do all government jobs have the provision of reservation.

The demand for full implementation of the reservation and other provisions has been in the process for the last 30 years. (ANI)
