ISLAMABAD - Pakistan Army Chief General Ashfaq Kayani has announced the priorities of his three-year extended term, saying that his efforts were concentrated on the war on terror and restoration of peace in country.

According to the military sources, during a meeting in Islamabad, Kayani openly expressed his viewpoint over internal and national security affairs.

The Army Chief discussed a range of issues including the situation of Afghanistan, reconciliation process with Taliban, relations with the US, drone attacks, relations with India and allegations on Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI).

“Army’s top priority was to ensure the defence and protecting the integrity of Pakistan,” the Nation quoted Kayani, as saying.

“The integrity of Pakistan is ensured by keeping the country’s interests in mind during the dialogues with any other country including United States,” he added.

Kayani had replaced former Pakistan President General Pervez Musharraf as the Army Chief on November 29, 2007.

Earlier, in July, Prime Minister Yousaf Raza Gillani extended Kayani’s term by three years, making him the first Pakistani to receive a term extension from any democratic government.

Kayani completed his first term on Sunday. (ANI)
