RAJOURI - Girls in Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri district are undergoing a special arms training by paramilitary forces to counter militancy in the state.

“This is basically to provide training to the children, especially girls, living near the Line of Control areas to use the new weapons and also the handling of the weapons, so that if any kind of emergency occurs the girls should be ready to fight back,” said S.S. Chillar, a Commanding Officer, 29 Rajput Rifles.

Sunaina, a girl who lost her grandmother in a militant attack, has been enthusiastically attending the training camp to learn the handling of hi-tech weapons used by the paramilitary forces to combat militant attacks.

“We have been given training to use big weapons and we have learnt a lot. We felt very nice,” said Sunaina.

The girls were inspired by Rukhsana Kausar, a girl who single-handedly took on a group of terrorists who barged into her house in a village in the Kashmir valley in September last year. By Abdul Jabbar (ANI)
