ISLAMABAD - Pakistan’s Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that any ills afflicting Pakistan would have implications for peace and stability in Afghanistan and troubles plaguing Afghan society would adversely affect Pakistan as well.

Inaugurating a two-day conference ‘Pakistan-Afghanistan: Towards Mutual Security, Stability and Trade’, Qureshi explained the importance of economic ties, trade routes and the usefulness of quadrilateral mechanisms to enhance engagement among the countries in the region.

He said that there was a need for multi-level contacts between the people from the two countries in order to better understand each other’s viewpoints, and added that he was particularly keen about establishing such contacts between the parliamentarians on both sides of the border, the Daily Times reports.

The Afghan head of delegation, Presidential Adviser on Home Security and Vice Chair D and R Commission Mohammad Masoom Stanekzai, in his initial statement, explained how relations between the two countries had progressed in the past two years, which had opened many new avenues of cooperation between them.
