‘Kidnapping for ransom main source of Taliban’s income’

PESHAWAR - The Taliban has reportedly changed its war strategy in Pakistan’s Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province, and has adopted a new approach of kidnappings for ransom and target killings.
According to sources, the Taliban is now planning to kidnap high-value targets to collect funds for their terrorist activities.
“Kidnapping for ransom is now a main source of income for the Taliban,” The Daily Times quoted a source, as saying.
Recently, the Swat Taliban had claimed killing a renowned religious scholar Dr. Farooq Khan.
A spokesman Umar Hassan Erabi had said that Dr. Khan was killed as he was propagating against them and writing anti-Taliban books.
Ajmal Khan, a university official and a prominent personality in Peshawar, was kidnapped last month, allegedly by the Taliban, and has not been heard from since. (ANI)
