Attorney: Bell offered severance to ousted manager
LOS ANGELES — An attorney for Robert Rizzo says the former Bell city manager charged with corruption was never terminated and did not resign his position from the scandal-plagued Southern California city.
Lawyer James Spertus told The Associated Press Thursday that the city offered Rizzo a severance package in July but then withdrew its offer.
Spertus says Rizzo wants access to his retirement savings and to COBRA forms so he can continue his healthcare benefits.
He says the city needs to notify the state Fair Political Practices Commission so Rizzo can get his pension.
Rizzo was getting a compensation package of about $1.5 million per year.
