Calif. man survives lightning amid humid heat
FONTANA, Calif. — Southern California authorities say a man has survived a lightning strike at a construction project.
The Riverside Press-Enterprise says it happened shortly before 10 a.m. Friday in Fontana.
Fire Department dispatch Supervisor Donna Mueller says the man apparently was touching a construction crane when the lightning struck. He was jolted but is conscious and breathing.
Thunderstorms are rumbling across the region as subtropical moisture flows into hot and humid Southern California.
On Thursday, 10 high school athletes running in a cross-country meet in Los Angeles’ Woodland Hills area were hospitalized for heat problems. The high there was 97.
