Karnataka Braces For The Ayodhya Verdict

BANGALORE (GaeaTimes.com)- With just one day to go for the Ayodhya verdict, states all over India are taking all the steps necessary to prevent a re-run of the 1992 riots. The Karnataka government has recognized the sensitivity of the verdict and beefed up the security of the state. The verdict was initially slated to be released on September 24 but the date was later changed to September 28. At the last moment though, the verdict has been further delayed till September 30.
The authorities have revealed that as many as 12,000 Home Guards, 50,000 Police officials, 150 KAR/DAR squads and 200 KSRP have been deployed across the state to ensure that the law and order is under control during and after the verdict. Apart from this the schools and colleges across the state have been given a 2 day holiday and the in view of the Allahabad High Court pronouncement of the Ayodhya verdict. Section 144s prohibitory orders have been applied for the next three days in Karnataka. The sale of liquor has also been banned for the next two days and strict action will be taken against those who will be found burning effigies or indulging in any such action. Officials have said that the measures have been taken as a precautionary step.
Last week, the Karnataka government had also announced a similar closing of schools and colleges because of the previously scheduled verdict on September 24. The court has dismissed the petition to defer the verdict. Apart from Karnataka, several other states across the country have been called vulnerable to violence due to the Ayodhya verdict. The list includes Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra.
