Prize-winning reporter Wallace Turner dead at 89

PORTLAND, Ore. — Wallace Turner, a former Oregonian reporter who shared a 1957 Pulitzer Prize for stories that exposed municipal corruption in Portland, has died at the age of 89.

A daughter, Kathleen Turner, told The Oregonian he Saturday died at a Springfield hospital of complications from old age.

The Oregonian reports Turner was hired at the age of 22 as night police reporter where he established a network of sources. He wrote the award-winning stories with William Lambert.

Turner later worked in the Kennedy administration but returned to journalism to work for The New York Times in San Francisco and Seattle. In recent years he lived in Eugene.
