NEW DELHI - To deal with rising cases of drug abuse among teens, lack of knowledge about sex and addiction to social networking sites and mobile phones among the youth, a series of interactive and skills-enhancement workshops are being held in the capital.
A 12-part, once-a-month series, organised by Vidyasagar Institute for Mental Health and Neuro Sciences (VIMHANS), was launched Friday. The topic was ‘Teen trials, troubles and tribulations: Understanding transitional issues, concerns and changes’.
According to Vijaiti Mahendra, consultant psychologist, Vimhans, the workshops are primarily an attempt at enhancing communication skills among family members.
“These are free interactive workshops and their theme is to generate better awareness about routine yet delicate issues that can make a positive change in family relationships,” Mahendra said.
The workshop included presentations, case studies and research videos on teen behavior. Many of the participants shared their personal experiences while trying to find solutions to their problems.
“This aims to capture the essence of young adulthood and address issues of relevance and effective strategies,” said Neha Bhimwal.
Bhimwal said that based on growing demand from parents, school authorities and the young adult population during various interactions, Vimhans has put together the workshop series.
The workshop saw active participation from parents, teachers and teens from all walks of life. The participants held animated discussions on issues like drug abuse, sex and negative impacts of social networking sites and mobile phones among others.
