Family of 2 Americans still in Iran talk to Shourd

MINNEAPOLIS — The American woman released from an Iranian prison this week has told family members of two others still being held that she had a chance to say goodbye and they were thrilled for her release.

Sarah Shourd spoke on a conference call from Oman with relatives of her fiance Shane Bauer and friend Josh Fattal. Bauer’s mother Cindy Hickey told The Associated Press about the call Wednesday afternoon.

Hickey says she had been up all night worrying her son and Fattal received no word of Shourd’s release. But Shourd told the families about bidding them farewell and said they were in good spirits and confident of their own release soon.

The three Americans were detained along Iran’s border with Iraq in July 2009 and later accused of spying. Their families say they were innocently hiking.
