Workers in Europe are protesting proposed government cutbacks and plans to raise retirement ages.
WHY: European governments are looking for ways to save money. In part they are motivated by the recent financial meltdown in Greece.
HAPPENING NOW: French workers protested a plan to raise the retirement age to 62 from 60, disrupting transportation, hospital and mail delivery. In the U.K., subway workers staged a strike over job cuts.
UP NEXT: More U.K. subway strikes are expected this fall, and other strikes are planned this month in Spain, Greece and the Czech Republic.
