Pregnant Amish woman hurt in Ohio buggy crash dies

CLEVELAND — A pregnant Amish woman injured when an SUV rear-ended her family’s buggy in northeast Ohio has died.

Barbara Kauffman was eight months’ pregnant and traveling with her husband and six children when a sports-utility vehicle rear-ended the buggy Wednesday. Ohio State Highway Patrol Sgt. Chad Bass says Kauffman died Sunday afternoon after giving birth to a son Thursday.

The baby is in fair condition at a Cleveland hospital.

Kauffman’s husband and her other children, ages 1 to 9, were injured in the crash.

Bass says charges are pending against the SUV driver.
