Mumbai Rains To Continue

MUMBAI, INDIA (GaeaTimes.com)- People living in Mumbai, the rains are no more romantic. Considering the devastation that the floods in 2005, the rains that have started since Saturday have caused he people of Mumbai to start panicking already. The heavy rains that have also been accompanied by strong gusty winds and though no injuries have been reported yet, there are some reports of flooding in Ghatkopar, Vikhroli and Malad area. Rail and other transport have not been affected according to the authorities.
Colaba had received more than 69 mm of rainfall in the morning today since Sunday morning. The numbers are expected to go higher as the rains continue to lash the city. Santacruz, where the airport is, has recorded as much as 130 mm of rain in the morning already. The suburbs have also been equally affected and he weather department in Mumbai has not issued any statements yet about when the rains will stop. Water logging has affected some of the low lying areas of Thane and people have been wading through knee deep water for most of the day today. Though the rains have subsided over the last one hour, the cloudy skies indicate that the rains are likely to continue. Some of the forecasts indicate that the Maharashtra capital is likely to experience the weather for another 24 hours.
In south Mumbai, a portion of the Bayani House building has caved in in the morning but no injuries have been reported. Yesterday the impact of the rains was less felt as people were confined to their homes on the Sunday. Today, however, being a working day, the rains are likely to cause a much greater disruption for the people who travel for work.
