CHANDIGARH - Male employees of the Haryana government who legally adopt a child below the age of one year can now claim 15 days’ paternity leave within six months from the date of adoption, an official said Sunday.

Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda has approved the proposal and the facility would be available to those having less than two surviving children, a state government spokesman said.

Haryana Finance Minister Ajay Singh Yadav clarified that if the paternity leave is not availed within six months from the date of adoption, it would lapse.

It would be called child adoption leave and cannot be clubbed with any other type of leave, the spokesman added.

The Haryana government allows its female staff to take 180 days’ maternity leave, 730 days’ child care leave and 180 days child adoption leave.
