Slain CA teen’s folks reserve right to file claim

SAN DIEGO — The parents of a San Diego teenager killed by a paroled sex offender have filed paperwork with the state to preserve their right to seek financial compensation for her death.

Sara Muller Fraunces, a spokeswoman for Brent and Kelly King, made the announcement Thursday.

Fraunces says in a statement the Kings have made no final decision on whether to seek compensation for the death of their daughter, Chelsea, but filed the paperwork to preserve their right to do so in advance of a six-month claims deadline.

Convicted sex offender John Albert Gardner III is serving a life sentence for killing 17-year-old Chelsea and 14-year-old Amber Dubois.

The California Assembly has scheduled a final vote Friday on a bill known as “Chelsea’s Law,” which would lock up some convicted child molesters for life.
