NEW DELHI - Prime Minister Manmohan Singh Monday greeted the country on the eve of Raksha Bandhan, asking the people to make renewed efforts to ensure women’s dignity and promote peace in society.

Rakhi symbolizes affection and reinforces family bonds, the prime minister said in his greetings a day before the Hindu festival in which a brother pledges to protect his sister.

“On this auspicious occasion, let us make renewed efforts to ensure the dignity and well-being of women and to promote peace and harmony in society,” he said.
