Relatives of Lockerbie victims marry in NJ

MONTVALE, N.J. — Hundreds gathered in New Jersey this weekend to share a special day for a couple united by tragedy.

Sonia Stratis and Chris Tedeschi were married in Montvale on Saturday, a year and a day after the man convicted of bombing Pan Am Flight 103 was released on humanitarian grounds from a Scottish prison.

Stratis lost her father, Elia, in the 1988 bombing over the Scottish town of Lockerbie, which killed 259 onboard and 11 on the ground.

Tedeschi’s father had married a woman whose previous husband died in the bombing. Tedeschi grew up with her three children.

The newlyweds both grew up in New Jersey but didn’t meet until a 2008 memorial dinner that marked the 20th anniversary of the bombing.
