Ohio toddler found dead in hot car; sister injured

MEDINA, Ohio — Authorities say two toddlers in northeast Ohio ran from their baby sitters and got stuck inside a hot car, where one died and the other was found barely conscious.

The Medina (meh-DY’-nuh) County Sheriff’s office says a teenage cousin and a friend were caring for 2-year-old Justina McCormick and 3-year-old Mary on Saturday while their parents were at work.

A next-door neighbor had noticed her car door was open and found the girls inside. It had been in direct sunlight with the windows closed, and temperatures outside were in the 80s.

Authorities did not know how long the girls were in the car.

Mary was in critical condition at a Cleveland hospital Saturday. Chief Deputy Kenneth Baca (BAH’-kuh) says authorities have yet to decide whether to pursue charges.
