Calif. sues kids’ bounce house makers over lead
OAKLAND, Calif. — California Attorney General Jerry Brown is suing several makers of inflatable “bounce houses” for children after tests showed some of the structures contain unsafe levels of lead.
In a suit filed Wednesday in Oakland, Brown says tests conducted by Oakland’s Center for Environmental Health found the vinyl in the inflatable structures contain lead levels that exceed both state and federal standards.
Tests on one bounce house found it with lead levels more than 70 times higher than the federal limit.
Brown wants the nine companies named in the suit to stop selling the contaminated materials. He also wants rental companies to post warnings about lead levels.
Bounce houses are often used at facilities that feature indoor inflatables for children to play on.
Some companies also rent the inflatables for use at children’s parties.
