Ack! ‘Cathy’ comic strip ending after 34 years

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — The comic strip “Cathy,” which has chronicled the life and dressing room meltdowns of its namesake for more than 30 years, is coming to an end.

Creator Cathy Guisewite (GEYES’-wyt) said Wednesday the final strip will run in newspapers on Sunday, Oct. 3.

Guisewite says it took her about a year to reach the decision to end the strip she’s been creating since 1976. She said the decision process was “excruciating” but that her “creative biological clock” is ticking and she has other things she wants to pursue.

“Cathy” is published by Kansas City-based Universal Press Syndicate, now known as Universal Uclick. The strip reached about 1,400 newspapers at its high point.
