GAYA - Devotees of diverse faiths converged at the shrine of revered Sufi mystic, Baba Mir Ali, to observe his Urs in Gaya, Bihar.

The mazaar wore a festive floral look on Wednesday.

“Hundreds of people from all walks of life have gathered here, irrespective of caste, creed or religion. Hindus, Muslims, Sikhs and Christians are all observing the occasion with faith and passion. On this day, we remember the saint and his teachings and listen to qawwallis,” said Qamaruddin Ahmed Siraji, a local priest.

Prostrating at the holy shrine, many believers prayed for peace and success, in the hope that the revered mystic would make them come true.

“I have also come here to ask for a wish. Baba Mir Ali has answered all my wishes and prayers in the past, and I know this time also, He will look out for me. There are more Hindus than Muslims who have gathered here to observe the Urs of the saint,” said Mantoo Mishra, a local.

The shrine of Baba Mir Ali is located in a heavily Maoist-affected region near Gaya, where normal life has come to a virtual standstill due to the ongoing radical violence.

The annual event culminated with readings from the holy Quran and other special prayers. By Surya Pratap Singh (ANI)
