Minn. boy killed by oversized, homemade slingshot

ROSEVILLE, Minn. — A 12-year-old Minnesota boy is dead after a 6-pound rock from an oversized, homemade slingshot fell on his chest.

Roseville police say the boy and a friend were shooting large rocks Sunday out of the slingshot, which was made by attaching 6- to 7-foot lengths of elastic tubing to a swing set at Bruce Russel Park.

Chief Rick Mathwig says the friends launched a 6-pound rock into the air several times, but the last time it came down and hit one boy in the chest.

Mathwig says the child was pronounced dead at the Hennepin County Medical Center.
