CHIPPEWA FALLS (GaeaTimes.com)- The voting lines for choosing the best ideas for the Pepsi Refresh grant have closed and people are busy speculating the results. The Pepsi Refresh Project has funded as many as 96 ideas so far and the soft drink giant has spent as much as $4.1 million. One of the beneficiaries is the Taco John’s at Chippewa Falls. The grant of $2000 will help the company help build a better infrastructure for the visitors at a Chippewa Falls park which houses playgrounds, zoo and a skateboard park. Another group which is hoping to win the $25,000 grant from the Pepsi Refresh project is the non profit group, Beads of Courage. With the help of the project they plan to give beads to the children who are undergoing treatment for cancer in 10 hospitals.
The Beads of Courage group helps children cope with the immense pain of cancer treatment by giving them beads that symbolize a particular phase of the treatment. If they win the grant of the Pepsi Refresh Project, they plan to provide the beads in 10 of the hospitals that do not have the facility. 6 year old Sydney Newton, collected the beads during her one year treatment and each bead helps her remember the different things that she endured during the process of treatment.
Dan Cole, the GM of Taco John’s said that they always wanted to contribute to the community and the grant from the Pepsi Refresh Project will allow them to help out the park. Several of the team members of Taco John’s have volunteered to work in the building process of the park infrastructure along with the park officials. The cheque presentation event will take place at the swimming pool area of the park on August 4 at 3pm.
