After 378 years, NH family farm goes up for sale

DOVER, N.H. — After nearly 400 years in the same family, a New Hampshire vegetable and fruit farm is up for sale.

The growth of supermarket chains and pick-it-yourself farms, plus the heavy workload, have made Lucy and Will Tuttle decide to sell their 134-acre farm in Dover. The brother and sister are the 11th generation of Tuttles.

On Tuesday, the farm went on the market. Asking price: $3.35 million.

Under a deed restriction that came with its 2006 designation as conservation land, it can’t be developed into strip malls or condos. Lucy Tuttle says that if her ancestors could see her now, they’d be amazed she stayed with it.
