Teen dies after accident at county fair in Kansas

EMPORIA, Kan. — A truck in a central Kansas county fair event left a mud track and hit another truck in the spectator area, fatally injuring a 17-year-old girl.

Hannah Deaver of Shawnee died at a hospital after the accident Saturday at the Lyon County Fair in Emporia.

Police said Deaver was sitting in the bed of a pickup watching the fair’s “Mud-A-Thon.” One of the modified pickup trucks in the event went through a guardrail, became airborne and hit the pickup where Deaver and another teen were sitting.

The other teen was treated at a hospital and later released.

Police continue to investigate.
