1 year anniversary of Americans detained in Iran

NEW YORK — Family members of three Americans hikers jailed in Iran are holding a rally in New York City to mark the one-year anniversary of their children’s detainment.

About five dozen supporters gathered Friday outside the Iranian mission. They held mock prison bars and pitched a tent with a sign that read: “Free the hikers. 365 days.”

The mothers of the three say they have not heard from their children since May when they were allowed by the Iranian government to visit them.

Saturday marks a year since the hikers were arrested along the Iraqi border.

Iran has accused them of espionage. Their families say they accidentally crossed the border while hiking in Iraq’s largely peaceful mountainous northern Kurdish region.
