PATNA - The first detailed report on the socio-economic condition of sex workers in Bihar is ready to be handed over to the state government.
The survey was conducted jointly by the Women Development Corporation and Parcham, a Muzaffarpur-based NGO headed by a sex worker’s daughter.
An official said the survey was conducted in 25 red light areas in the last six months. “The survey was conducted in Muzaffarpur, Sitamarhi, Saharsa, Purnea and other districts,” the official said.
“We will submit the survey report to Chief Minister Nitish Kumar soon for initiating measures for their empowerment.”
The report of the survey was not made public but insiders said the report highlights the socio-economic marginalisation that sex workers face and their difficulties in leading a life of dignity.
