Philly sports arena renamed Wells Fargo Center

PHILADELPHIA — The name of the arena that is home to the Philadelphia Flyers and 76ers has been changed from the Wachovia Center to the Wells Fargo Center.

Comcast-Spectacor, which owns and operates the 21,000-seat venue, says the change reflects the change in the financial institutions. Wells Fargo bought Wachovia in December 2008.

Workers began removing the Wachovia Center sign on Tuesday. The firm says the Wells Fargo Center signs are expected to be in place by Sept. 14, when Lady Gaga performs the first of two shows at the center.
