Cameron says understands anger on Gulf spill

WASHINGTON — British Prime Minister David Cameron says his government will “engage constructively” in congressional hearings on whether BP had any involvement in the decision to free the Lockerbie bomber from jail last year and send him home to Libya.

But Cameron says the decision wasn’t made by BP, “but by the Scottish government.” Cameron spoke at a joint news conference Tuesday with President Barack Obama.

Cameron urged American to avoid confusing “the oil spill with the Libyan bomber.”

He said he understands Americans’ anger over the Gulf spill and said BP must be held accountable. He also emphasized the importance of the British oil giant to the U.S. and British economies.
