LAPD bomb squad removes live ordinances from home

LOS ANGELES — A Los Angeles Police bomb squad has removed two live Korean War-era military ordinances from a house in the Glassell Park neighborhood.

Sgt. Wayne Guillary says a man cleaning the garage of his parent’s home found the bombs late Saturday morning. The bomb squad responded and determined the devices were live.

The ordinances, which dated back to the 1950s, were safely removed by late afternoon and taken to another location to be detonated. They had apparently been stored at the house for some time.

Surrounding streets were briefly closed to traffic and dozens of people within a 300 yard radius were evacuated.
