PESHAWAR - The death toll in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas’ Mohmand Agency suicide attack has reached 49, including four security personnel.

Over 75 people have been injured in the attack.

According to reports, the bomber struck when people gathered around a government office in the Mohmand Pashtun tribal region near the Afghan border.

“There were two blasts. The first one was small but the second was a big one. Up to 46 people have been killed,” Rasool Khan, a local political agent told a foreign news agency.

The blast was so powerful that it damaged several cars parked outside the office and several adjoining shops. The boundary of the Yeka Ghanda jail has also been damaged in the blast.

According to sources, several prisoners also escaped from the jail after the blast.

Law enforcement officials have reached the site of the blast and a curfew has been imposed in the area.

The Bajaur-Peshawar road has also been closed for traffic as rescue operations continued.

The suicide attack is the first major terror attack since last week’s deadly attack on Lahore’s famous Hazrat Data Gunj Bukhsh shrine in which 43 people were killed and over 175 injured. (ANI)
