PESHAWAR - At least 15 people were killed and dozens others wounded when a suicide bomber blew himself up outside the office of a senior government official in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas’ Mohmand Agency on Friday.

The bomber struck when people gathered around the office in the tribal area’s Yakaghund tehsil.

“The bomber blew himself up outside the office of an assistant political agent, killing himself and wounding dozens others,” Mehraj Khan, a government official, told a foreign news agency.

Over 50 persons with multiple wounds have been admitted to a local hospital while some of the seriously injured have been shifted to Peshawar.

The blast was so powerful that it damaged several cars parked outside the office and several adjoining shops.

Law enforcement officials reached the site of the blast and have imposed a curfew in the area.

The Bajaur-Peshawar road has also been closed for traffic as rescue operations continued.

The suicide attack is the first major terror attack since last week’s deadly attack on Lahore’s famous Hazrat Data Gunj Bukhsh shrine in which 43 people were killed and over 175 injured. (ANI)
