Miss USA visits medical center where she worked

DETROIT — Miss USA Rima Fakih (REE’-mah fah-KEY’) has reconnected with colleagues at a Detroit hospital where she worked before winning her title.

The 24-year-old from Dearborn paid a visit Thursday to the Detroit Medical Center, where she’s on leave from her job as a marketing representative.

It’s part of her first visit back to Michigan since being crowned May 16. Other events include a fundraiser Friday at Detroit’s Westin Book-Cadillac Hotel.

She’s also scheduled to receive a key to the city of Dearborn Saturday and give a talk aimed at young people.

Fakih was born in Lebanon and moved to the U.S. as a baby. She was raised in New York and moved to Michigan in 2003.

She says she’s proud to be seen as a “different kind of Miss USA.”
