The9 invests in mobile game developer Aurora Feint

NEW YORK — Chinese online game developer The9 Ltd. said Thursday it has made a minority investment in Aurora Feint, a mobile game developer.

Burlingame, Calif.-based Aurora Feint Inc. operates OpenFeint, a mobile gaming network that lets users socialize with friends and other players while playing games on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch. OpenFeint has more than 28 million registered users.

The9 did not say how much it is investing.

Standard & Poor’s equity analyst Scott Kessler called the move “a strategically sound investment” for The9 and reiterated a “Hold” rating on the company’s American Depositary shares.

U.S.-traded stock of The9 rose 4 cents to $4.17 in afternoon trading.
