Head of trans-Alaska pipeline company retiring
JUNEAU, Alaska — The chief executive of the trans-Alaska pipeline is retiring in September.
Alyeska Pipeline Service Co. confirms Kevin Hostler is stepping down, effective Sept. 30. Company spokeswoman Michelle Egan says his retirement was planned for some time. A replacement has not been chosen.
BP PLC is the largest single owner of the 800-mile oil pipeline.
Hostler was a longtime BP executive, though Alyeska is its own entity, separate from the company.
Questions have been raised about the pipeline’s safety record and whether cost-cutting has been a problem under Hostler’s watch.
Alyeska, in a statement, touted improved employee safety performance during his tenure.
