Founder of Spanish-language newspaper dies at 82
MIAMI — Roberto Suarez, founder of Miami’s largest Spanish-language newspaper, has died. He was 82.
Editors of El Nuevo Herald confirmed Wednesday that Suarez died Tuesday of complications from Alzheimer’s disease.
Suarez launched the newspaper in 1987 as The Miami Herald’s Spanish-language daily.
His career ended in 1995 as the Herald’s president emeritus and publisher of El Nuevo Herald. El Nuevo Herald became an independent publication in 1998.
Its current editor, Manny Garcia, called Suarez a diplomat “who understood and respected the views of the community.”
