NCR to add Blockbuster kiosks at QuikTrip stores
DULUTH, Ga. — NCR Corp. said Tuesday it plans to install Blockbuster DVD vending machines in “nearly all” of the 555 QuikTrip convenience stores in nine states.
The stores are in Arizona, Illinois, Iowa, Georgia, Kansas, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma and Texas, said NCR, which operates the rental kiosks for Blockbuster.
NCR bought DVDPlay in December, and since then has been working to replace DVDPlay kiosks with Blockbuster Express kiosks.
The kiosk rollout is part of Blockbuster’s effort to catch up with Redbox, the Coinstar Inc. subsidiary that pioneered $1-per-night rentals from vending machines, and to try to compete with online DVD rental company Netflix Inc.
Last week Dallas-based Blockbuster said it reached a forbearance agreement with some of its senior secured noteholders.
Shares of NCR rose 33 cents, or 2.7 percent, to $12.36 in late morning trading, and Blockbuster shares climbed 3.3 percent to 18.4 cents.
