Police: Woman, 60, dies of Iowa parade injuries

BELLEVUE, Iowa — Police say a 60-year-old Iowa woman has died of her injuries sustained when two startled horses bolted during a Fourth of July parade and galloped through the streets pulling a wagon for several blocks.

Bellevue police Patrolman Brent Roling says the woman died Sunday evening at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City. He declined to identify her.

Twenty-four people were injured when the horses took off during the parade in Bellevue. Five people were critically injured, including the woman who died.

The small town along the Illinois-Iowa border has had a Fourth of July parade for decades.
