LONDON - General Stanley McChrystal, the top US commander in Afghanistan who was sacked last week for his scathing remarks against the White House’s Afghan policy, has decided to retire.

“He told the army today he’s going to retire,” The Telegraph quoted Army spokesperson Colonel Thomas Collins, as saying.

The four-star general told the office that manages general officers that he would retire, but has not yet submitted formal paperwork ,and it is unclear how much more time he had in uniform, Collins added

General Mc Chrsytal had to step down after he was summoned to the White House by President Obama to explain his criticism of the administration’s civilian officials in Rolling Stone magazine.

Though McChrsytal apologized for his remarks later, he was replaced by Central Command Chief General David Petraeus. (ANI)
