‘Charlie’s Angels’ composer Allyn Ferguson dies
WESTLAKE VILLAGE, Calif. — Allyn Ferguson, an Emmy-winning composer who co-wrote the themes for the TV shows “Charlie’s Angels” and “Barney Miller,” has died at 85.
His daughter, Jill, says Ferguson died last Wednesday at his home in the Los Angeles suburb of Westlake Village.
Ferguson and partner Jack Elliott composed music for dozens of TV episodes in the 1970s. Ferguson also scored many shows on his own. He was nominated for six Emmys and won one in 1985 for his work on a TV adaptation of the classic novel “Camille.”
Ferguson also was an arranger or music director for artists including Sarah Vaughan, Johnny Mathis and Julie Andrews. He also wrote the arrangements for a 1998 Grammy-winning album by the Count Basie Orchestra.
