Mermaid Parade In Coney Island

NEW YORK CITY (GaeaTimes.com)- There will be a magnificent display of vibrant colors with people in their best handmade costumes of sea creatures on the streets of Coney Island, New York City, today, June 19 as they celebrate their 28th Annual Mermaid Parade. Dressed in different attires of sea creatures the participants will march the streets of Coney Island which is a wonderful sight to see. Mermaid Parade was founded by Dick Zigun who also founded the non profit arts group Coney Island USA.

Like every year, this year also the Mermaid Parade will start at 2pm with Lou Reed as King Neptune and Laurie Anderson as Queen Mermaid. The Mermaid Parade also pays homage to Mardi Gras, and teaches mythology to Brooklyn families and provides honor and self esteem to the people of Coney Island. This year like every year, the participants will assemble at West 21st Street and Surf Avenue then march towards West 10th Street to the Boardwalk and then to its west and ultimately end at Stillwell Avenue. The Ribbon Cutting Pageant on the beach south of West 10th Street which concludes the parade will be around 5:30 pm and the official after party of The Mermaid Parade will continue till 11:30 pm.

Boardwalk is under construction this time, but guess it will not hinder the viewers to watch their favorite event Mermaid Parade on the streets of Coney Island. There will be live music, burlesque and side shows as well for the viewers and participants. This Mermaid Parade is loved by the people of Coney Island for its exposure and expansion of ideas, for its colors and spread of happiness around the city.
