UN prosecutor urges intensified search for Mladic

UNITED NATIONS — The chief U.N. prosecutor for former Yugoslavia is urging the Serbian government to broaden its investigation and intensify its search for Bosnian Serb wartime chief Ratko Mladic.

Serge Brammertz told the U.N. Security Council Friday that the arrest of the tribunal’s last two fugitivies — Mladic and Goran Hadzic, a former leader of rebel Serbs in Croatia — are his “highest priority.”

Brammertz did not comment on a motion by Mladic’s family on Wednesday asking a Serbian court to declare him officially dead but said he recently asked Serbian authorities “to step up search efforts” for Mladic and Hadzic.
