Imax in deal to open 5 theaters in Thailand

Imax Corp. said Friday it has reached an agreement with Major Cineplex Group, the leading commercial theater operator in Thailand, to install five Imax digital theater systems in that country.

Under the terms of the agreement, the companies plan to open two big-screen theaters in greater Bangkok by October.

Imax, based in Mississauga, Ont., said the deal “continues the very strong trend of adding more Imax theaters in Asia.”

Imax shares were up 57 cents, or 3.7 percent, at $16.20 Friday afternoon.
