NYC man returns from 3-year sea voyage

NEW YORK — A New York City man is back on dry land after more than three years at sea.

Reid Stowe, who’s 58, docked his schooner at about 1:20 p.m. Thursday in Manhattan.

It was the first time he had touched land in 1,152 days. He anchored in New Jersey for a few days but didn’t get off the boat.

Stowe met his son for the first time Thursday. His girlfriend, Soanya Ahmad, had been traveling with him until she became pregnant in 2008.

The toddler was sleeping in his mother’s arms when Stowe got off the boat and kissed Ahmad on the cheek. Stowe’s five brothers and sisters and other family members also greeted him.
