DA: Probe nets illegal knives at major NYC stores

NEW YORK — Prosecutors say they’ve reeled in more than 1,300 illegal knives in an undercover investigation involving major stores in New York City.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office says the probe has led to multimillion-dollar agreements with several major retailers.

Prosecutors declined to identify the stores in advance of a news conference scheduled for Tuesday afternoon.

Under New York state law, it’s generally illegal to possess switchblades, gravity knives and several other kinds of knives.

There are some exceptions for licensed hunters and law-enforcement officers, among others.
