Mass. researcher says he has ID’d 7 MIAs from WWII
SUITLAND, Md. — A researcher in Massachusetts says he has identified the remains of at least seven U.S. service members declared missing in action 66 years ago in the World War II Battle of Saipan.
Retired Marine Corps Gunnery Sgt. Ted Darcy of Fall River, Mass., says he expects to make about two dozen more matches within a week through computer analysis of data he gleaned from government documents.
Darcy has helped bring home the remains of three World War II fighters in recent years after the military verified his findings.
He says he will forward his latest matches to military authorities. The process of confirming such findings can sometimes take years.
Darcy made his announcement Tuesday, the 66th anniversary of the battle’s opening day.
